The nine types of learning are memorize concept, understand concept, apply concept, memorize procedure, understand procedure, apply procedure, memorize principle, understand principle, and apply principle.

Webpage Project
During the webpage project we demonstrated concept, procedure, and in our reflection demonstrated principle. We needed to demonstrate the what we were able to do (concept), how we were able to not only teach ourselves the software, but also use it (procedure) and then define why (principles) and how we could use it to improve our student's outcomes.
Reflection of Self-test
My performance on the self-test was poor and indicates that I was merely memorizing the information required to do well in this discussion. Since I was unable to apply what I had read to the questions on the quiz I answered most of the questions wrong. Had the wrong answer given me some logical explaination as to why it was wrong or why another answer was better, i might be better able to pass it next time. With some discussion, I would probably have a better conceptual understanding of the information and be able to apply the information better.

Hi, Kimber, there will be more discussion around those 9 types of learning for the following modules. Don't be discouraged! Module one provides a big picture of what you are going to study. Along with the projects you had done in the previous semester, we will focus one or two style at a time!
ReplyDeleteKimber, for your web project, can you elaborate more about how the concept, procedure, and principle were demonstrated? References are needed.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that if the Self-Test had given more input on our wrong answers, that I would have been more motivated to complete it. After awhile I just starting guessing since the verbs used and the answers did not match when it came to Bloom’s Taxonomy. Any sort of explanation or additional discussion would have aided in my understanding of the information.
ReplyDeleteI think all educational projects meet several levels of thinking, Iam glad you were able to find that you applied these levels in the webpage project. I honestly had forgotten, to me that project was like the final step to put all what we had learned together, more like a summary. I had already created a webpage before so when I create that webpage I did not place attention to that. Great job!
ReplyDeleteAs per the self-test, since I got my teaching certification through an alternative program, I have not focus on such learnings. Don't get me wrong, I do know about them, but I have never given it great thought to how I teach and then how I assess. I am sure further explanation and discussion will help us much more.
